Collaboration Series – Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation

Next up in our collaboration series we have the wonderful Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation. If you follow us on Instagram you probably already know how much we LOVE the funky and colorful patterns in Warlu art, but do you know the story of Warlu?

Established in 1985, Warlukurlangu Artists is one of the longest running and most successful aboriginal owned artists collaboration in Central Australia. Famous for their colorful acrylic paintings and limited edition prints, the art center has been featured in hundreds of exhibitions and publications worldwide.

Named for a fire dreaming site west of Yuendumu, Warlukurlangu means “belonging to fire” in Warlpiri, the local language in the aboriginal town where the center is based.

In addition to creating beautiful pieces, Warlukurlangu Artists aim to share Warlpiri culture and increase awareness ad garner support for Indigenous causes and Aboriginal culture. From childcare centers and swimming pools to scholarship funds for health degrees, Warlukurlangu Artists never stop working to improve the community that surrounds them.

Local community members of all ages are trained and encouraged to work and create art in the center, making every Warlu piece a true community effort.

Whether you follow them on Instagram or turn one of their pieces into a customized piece of art, we encourage you to help us in supporting Warlukurlangu Artists in their mission to improve their community and support Indigenous people.
